The Catholic Church begins with the teachings of Jesus Christ, who lived in the 1st century CE in the province of Judea of the Roman Empire. The contemporary Catholic Church says that it is the continuation of the early Christian community established by Jesus.Christianity spread throughout the early Roman Empire despite persecutions due to conflicts with the pagan state religion. In 313, the struggles of the early church were lessened by the legalization of Christianity by the Emperor Constantine I. In 380, under Emperor Theodosius I, Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire by the decree of the emperor, which would persist until the fall of the Western Empire, and later with the Eastern Roman Empire until the fall of Constantinople.Papal supremacy is the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church that the pope, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ and as pastor of the entire Christian Church, has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered—that, in brief, “the Pope enjoys, by divine institution, supreme, full, immediate, and universal power in the care of souls.”
In this historical context comes alive the idea of eucharistic congresses soon after 1870. The perseverance of a laywoman believer, Émilie-Marie Tamisier (1834-1910) has a key role in the creation of eucharistic congress. Émilie-Marie Tamisier was the pupil of Saint Pier Giuliano Eymard (1811-1868) and Antoine Chevrier (1826-1879), and she was supported by Bishop Gaston de Ségur (1820-1880), who was the apostle of eucharistic spirituality and a prominent representative of strict Catholicism in France.Pope Leo XIII's request, who regarded the Eucharist as the sacrament of re-establishment of Catholic unity cutting across rituals, the eighth congress took place in Jerusalem in 1893. The Pope represented himself by an official legate, Cardinal Langénieux, indicating the importance of the event in his aspirations for unity.Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of ecclesiastics and laymen for the purpose of celebrating and glorifying the Holy Eucharist and of seeking the best means to spread its knowledge and love throughout the world.
In the Roman Catholic Church, jubilees began to be celebrated formally in 1300 AD and were seen as years of forgiveness of sins and reconciliation. Today, they are celebrated every 25 years. The most recent year of jubilee was 2000.The Jubilee of Mercy was formally declared through the papal bull Misericordiae vultus, issued on 11 April 2015, which emphasizes the importance of mercy and the need to 'gaze' on it; the bull also recalls the need for the Church to be more open, keeping alive the spirit of the Second Vatican Council. The jubilee year was called every fifty years and was a time for forgiveness. It stood as a reminder of God's providence and mercy. The dedication of a year for this emphasis provided the community with a time to come back into right relationship with one another and with God.The Jubilee Year is a special occasion that occurs every 25 years, and it is a time for Catholics to come together to celebrate their faith and to seek forgiveness for their wrongs.A jubilee is a special anniversary of an event, especially the 25th or 50th anniversary.
Pope John Paul II was inspired to establish World Youth Day in 1986 by the church's Youth Jubilee (1984), a special meeting between the pope and young Catholics held at the conclusion of the 1983–84 Year of Jubilee, and by the United Nations International Youth Year (1985).International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August 2000.When did Youth Day become a holiday? In 1995, the newly-elected democratic government declared that June 16 would be Youth Day – to serve as a reminder of the progress our country has made regarding equality and equal opportunity for all youth and to honor the youth who lost their lives during the Soweto Uprising.John Paul II left a legacy for the youth in his institution of World Youth Day, which Pope Benedict XVI has faithfully continued, carrying on the hope of His predecessor for the youth of the world, inviting them and commissioning them as Christ’s disciples to be faithful living witnesses.
Since its inception in 1994, the event had been held in various locations, each with unique themes and focuses. Previous locations included Rome, Milan, Philadelphia, and Dublin. The meetings are a testament to the Church's commitment to supporting and celebrating families. It is organized by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, which "promotes the pastoral care of families, protects their rights and dignity in the Church and in civil society, so that they may ever be more able to fulfill their duties." It is the biggest gathering of Catholic families in the world. The purpose of a family meeting is to foster open communication among family members. It is a safe place where everyone is free to say what they think and feel as they cooperate to make decisions and solve problems. A structured meeting helps this to happen when a family is ready for it.Families offer an environment of warmth, love, and understanding, which is essential for the emotional and psychological development of their members. The emotional stability provided in a family fosters self-confidence and self-esteem in individuals, making them resilient and capable of dealing with life's challenges.
Pilgrimage, travel to a holy place or for a holy purpose, has a long history in the Church, though it is never identified as a religious practice or priority in the scriptures. Pilgrimage became part of the Catholic tradition in the fourth century, when Christians wanted to travel to the places that were part of Jesus’ life, or to the graves of the martyrs and Saints Peter and Paul.5 Pilgrimage is not universally practiced by Catholic Christians, but it is fair to say that across the tradition it has an important place for many Catholics. A few pilgrimage trails, most notably Europe’s medieval Camino de Santiago, have been reconstituted in recent decades and become popular with Christians and non-Christians alike.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is adored worldwide in many different sites of the globe. Due to her apparitions, there are some places where Catholics erected shrines to pay homage to Saint Mary. Examples include include major Marian shrines that claim to be sites of apparitions; devotional shrines that crop up at side altars or outside parish churches, allowing for ongoing devotion to Mary or another saint; statues and grottoes in neighborhoods or at crossroads; and sites where a saint or a holy person is buried.
